The Periyar Tiger Reserve and the Monkeys

Today we have just come back from a walk in the Periyar Tiger reserve. So we took a rickshaw taxi to the gate of the Tiger reserve then we got out. We had to wait at the gate a bit because Daddy had to go back to the ticket office to get tickets to walk in the park. After Daddy had come back we went into the park and followed a path which joined on to the road later on.

After a bit we got to this boating place where we went to get some Tea for everybody, but it wasn’t any ordinary cafe, it was  basically a cage to keep the monkeys out. At first me and Sascha thought they were really funny because they were stealing people’s drinks and drinking them up, but in the cage we noticed how aggressive they were, they even tried to get in and they managed, one of them managed to put one foot in by the door and there was another one which got in through the metal cage because he was quite small. Elliot screamed as if a king cobra had just bitten him and Sascha and I panicked a lot and we all ran to the other side of the cage! (and Elliot).

Who is in the cage, really?

Later when we had walked to a place where there were picnic benches but we thought it was a monkey free so  he cut up the watermelon but the monkeys  attacked us and took all the skin of the watermelon we were eating and took a bit of our watermelon too. But luckily we were on the lookout for monkeys and put most of the watermelon back in the bag, I still had a piece of watermelon in my hand and then I took a bite of it but a monkey came towards me and bared his teeth and snarled so I through the watermelon in my hand at him and he just gobbled it up and went back to where the watermelon skin was.  After that we walked to where there were some rickshaw taxis were and took one back to the elephant junction, and walked back to Monsoon retreats and here I am now writing this blog entry!

The monkey has stolen the bottle and has escaped into the tree because he didn't want to share it.
